DB Building Conservation has the skills to offer consultancy services in the following areas:

  • Heritage Statements
  • Statements of significance
  • Listed Building Consent applications
  • Expert witness
  • Historic research and analysis of building history and development
  • Repair strategies
  • Selection of materials and suppliers

We can help homeowners and others who are planning work on listed buildings to formulate a proposal that can be presented to the Local Planning Authority. Most, if not all, proposals for change or repair to historic buildings need to be supported with appropriate documentation in order to gain consent from Conservation Officers. Documents might typically consist of a Heritage Statement giving an account of the history and development of the building, its historical and other significance and an assessment of the impact of any work on that significance. A method statement may also be required setting out the materials and techniques to be used. Both documents require specialist input in order that they present a convincing case in support of the proposal.

We possess the knowledge and understanding of historic buildings that is required to present a persuasive case for change or renewal and have experience of successfully piloting proposals through the planning process.

We also have good contacts with craftspeople and other experts within the conservation field and can offer suggestions about who to get in touch with for technical specification that falls outside our main areas of expertise.
